A Rule of Enrolling First Graders in Schools has already been defined

Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia starts the registration process of the first graders from March 1 to May 15. Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini held a briefing on this issue. From 2011, the rule of enrolling first-graders in schools will be changed and this process will become more transparent and accessible for all. For the first time, a concrete deadline has been set for registration of first graders; parents should meet this deadline as early or late applications won’t be accepted. According to the decision of the Ministry, from March 1 to March 15 registration will start for those first graders whose parents teach at the school they are about to study or whose siblings study in the selected school. For all the other first graders registration process will start from March 15 and end on May 15. In order to obtain a personal computer for the first graders, parents shall apply the selected school in a timely manner and register their children no later than May 15.

School Director Irene Jgerenaia attended a two-day meeting in Anaklia ,that was organized by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRG) . At the meeting the Tolerance program was summarized. Analysis was carried out around the certain topics. The three topics were: the creation of session modules and presentation of existing ones, the identification of the initial and final assessment of the situation, and course plans for the future were outlined.

Giorgi Gulbiani, The IT Manager of Kutaisi Public School # 17 , participated in the test that was announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia , in order to obtain the IT manager's position. The testing lasted 30 minutes online.

Representatives of Asia and Africa Institute of Free University of Tbilisi held A two-day meeting with the students of Kutaisi public schools in Z.Zhvania School of Public Administration. The meeting was attended by the students of Kutaisi Public school #17 : S.Khonelidze, S.Karchkhadze, T.Adeishvili, N .Komakhidze, M.Katsadze, V.Mshvildadze, E.Todua, B.Lomtadze. At the meeting, the following topics were discussed: "Middle and Far East," "Etiquette and the language of mimicry", "The world, humans, and thinking”.

In the head office of World Vision in Tbilisi, the training was conducted on the topic: Advocacy and Promotion of Civic Engagement (CV&A). The training was attended by the Youth Council members of the school: A. Dzandzava (11th grade) and N. Ptskialadze (10th grade)

Youth Parliament Elections

On February 3, 2011, in Kutaisi Public school #17 the Youth Parliament Elections were held. The elections were headed by two members of the electoral commission; teacher Tamar Barbakadze and 11th grader Ketevan Bajadze. 188 students voted for the desired candidate. 11th grader – Akaki dzandzava won the elections. Elections were held in full compliance with the Charter of Youth Parliament.

On January 28 , the school was visited by the Youth Forum-Theatre of Cultural - Humanitarian Fund "Sukhumi". The Performance consisted of 4 episodes against violence.: "Violence in the family, between husband and wife.” , "Violence between brother and sisiter.” "Violence against old people” and "Violence in School” ( Director – Kote Revishvili, actors- Z.Kuprashvili, S. Winners of the Competition “The Best Linguist” Were Awarded

The final round of the competition ”The Best Linguist” was held in Kutaisi Public School №17. 18 participants from Zestaponi, Samtredia, Zugdidi, Kobuleti and Kutaisi took part in it. Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Irine Kurdadze, education expert of the U.S. Embassy to Georgia, Ben Pellegram and Mayor of Kutaisi, Giorgi Tevdoradze, observed the competition and participated in the award ceremony. The Deputy Minister held a working meeting with around 300 teachers of Kutaisi. Irine Kurdadze presented to them 2010 report of the implemented reforms, spoke about the future plans and answered their questions. The innovative online competition "The Best Linguist” is being held for the second year by Kutaisi Public School №17, along with the English Language Department of Tsereteli State University with the support of MES. Partners of the competition are the U.S. Embassy to Georgia, Kutaisi Resource Centers, local self-governance and Pro-Credit Bank. All participants were interviewed online through Skype. This round of the competition was called the Skype Round. The above activity simplified the participation of the regional schoolchildren in the competition. Participants had to choose one of the listed topics, create a blog and send the link to moazrovne@17school.ge in the final round. The Finalists represented interesting versions. In the scope of the event, guests visited gyms that were reconstructed by MES in 2010.

By the support of International Organization for Migration , in the scope of Trafficking Prevention Project a training course _”The trafficking” was held for the teachers of Civic Education .(trainer –M.Jincharadze) The teachers were introduced to a model lesson, and were given the text-books of IX-X grades.
